Photonics Communications Research Laboratory
National Technical University of Athens
The Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) was founded in September 1995, as a research facility of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).The group charter has been to extend the research efforts of the department towards the area of optical fiber communications. PCRL is a member of the Institute of Communications & Computer Systems (ICCS).
Research in Photonics
The research line of PCRL is dedicated on merging photonic technology with telecommunications. Our mission is to provide innovative solutions for transmission, amplification and switching of light. Key research areas include optical sources and transmitters, optical fiber amplifiers, optical signal processing systems and new node and network architectures for future Terabit-capacity data-centric photonic networks.
Our Systems Lab
The Photonics Communications Research Laboratory is a is a well-equipped laboratory with skilled personnel excelling in the design and development of photonic systems. PCRL infrastructure includes 40 Gb/s electrical and lightwave test & measurement equipment and state-of-the art photonic system testbeds up to 160 Gb/s using Optical Time Division Multiplexing and Wavelength Division Multiplexing techniques. The large number of available passive and active photonic components allows for the development and performance evaluation of ultra high-rate functional photonic systems.
