On 7–8 October 2025, the LOLIPOP consortium, coordinated by the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL), met at IDLab–IMEC in Ghent, Belgium, for its M38 plenary meeting.
Partners from across Europe gathered to share progress, exchange ideas, and plan the next steps in developing a lithium niobate–based silicon nitride platform for fragmentation-free operation in the visible and near-infrared spectrum.
As project coordinator, PCRL leads the effort to combine the strengths of lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) and silicon nitride (TriPleX) technologies into a disruptive hybrid platform, enabling ultra-wideband operation, from 400 to 1600 nm, with unmatched integration, modulation, and nonlinear performance.
The two-day meeting included presentations from all work packages, covering design, integration, packaging and testing, along with a tour of IMEC’s state-of-the-art photonics labs.
Under PCRL’s coordination, the LOLIPOP Project continues to advance hybrid photonic integration toward scalable, high-performance optical systems with applications spanning sensing, communication, and quantum technologies.
