PCRL at ICTON 2025

The Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) participated in the 25th Anniversary International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON 2025), held from July 6–10 in Barcelona. As one of the world’s leading events in photonics and optical communications, ICTON brought together researchers, engineers and industry experts from across the globe.

Presenting our work on 3D Photonic Integration

On Thursday, July 10, Georgios Megas presented our latest research developed under the SPRINTER and POETICS projects:
“Demonstration of an Optical 16×16 Benes Switch based on 3D Photonic Integration.”

The talk focused on a novel optical switch architecture designed for high-density and energy-efficient optical networks, leveraging advanced 3D photonic integration techniques.

Invited Talk on 5G X-haul/QKD Multiplexing over Deployed Infrastructure

We were also excited to announce that Dr. Aristeidis Stathis from PCRL was invited to speak during the Quantum Communications track!

In his talk, Dr. Stathis explored how Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) can coexist with existing 5G X-haul infrastructure, offering real-world solutions for secure quantum-enhanced communication networks.
